New Germany Elementary School is located in New Germany, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, near the headwaters of the LaHave River. We are approximately 125 km southwest of Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia (see the map below). Our school serves 200 students from grades primary to six. Students from our school attend New Germany Rural High School, which is "just over the hill" from New Germany Elementary. Our school is part of the South Shore Regional School Board. New Germany Elementary is a very busy place. Students enjoy extra-curricular activities such as soccer, basketball, softball, and cross country running. We have a dedicated group of parents, teachers and community members who coach our students. Parents and community members also volunteer in our Library and are active members of our Home and School Association and School Advisory Council. The Home and School Association usually meets on the first Wednesday of the month. The School Advisory Council meets on the second Monday of the month. Both groups are open to any parents or community members who would like to attend. You may contact the the school office (644-5020) for more information on meeting times. The Green Team is back again this year. The team has been very enthusiastic with reducing the amount of garbage created at the school daily. The program, initiated by two teachers and the daytime custodian, involves over twenty students in recycling and educating the entire student and staff population. Click below to find out more about the successful program. (You will need PowerPoint on your computer to view the slideshow.)
New Germany Elementary School School-wide Code of Conduct Categories of Behaviour
Minors These behaviours are handled by the classroom teacher or attending adult. Minors are those behaviours which, from time to time impede the orderly operation of the classroom and/or school while not threatening the safety or well-being of other students or staff.
Middles These behaviours are handled initially by the teacher or attending adult but are referred to administration if the behaviours become chronic, despite appropriate intervention having been put in place. Middles pose a more persistent threat to the integrity of the learning environment but are not serious enough to endanger the well-being of others or to damage school property.
Majors
These behaviours are immediately referred to administration. Majors are behaviours which are serious enough to markedly or persistently disrupt the education of others, endanger the safety and security of others or significantly damage school property.
